Fit for life

Games and PE lessons encourage the development of healthy habits ang the honing of skills.

Whether studying BTEC PE or enjoying the opportunity to improve personal fitness the PE department supports our pupils.

Level 3 BTEC Sports Studies allows pupils to explore, in depth, all aspects of the world of sport.

In Key Stage 3, the pupils undertake athletics, dance (girls), games, gymnastics, health –related PE and swimming, in line with national curriculum requirements.

The emphasis is on experiencing a variety of activities, building skills, developing fitness and having fun in an inclusive environment, where everyone is challenged to develop according to their own level.

‘’Preparing for life’’ is our school motto and our ethos in PE.  KS4 is much more pupil led, where young people are encouraged to select activities in which they wish to specialise or simply undertake the kind of strength and conditioning activities they will experience in a gym or fitness class outside school.

BTEC Level3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport

Tis qualification is the equivalent of one ‘A’ level; pupils study four units in Year 13 and three in Year 14.  Units include: Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness testing, Sports Coaching and Exercise, health and Lifestyle.

Many pupils avail of an extensive afterschool programme and the College has achieved notable success in the Mid-Antrim Cup and League in football(boys), Ballymena League in hockey and netball (girls), Secondary Schools Rugby Competition and IFA Girls’ Football competitions.  There are additional clubs in gymnastics, trampolining, basketball, athletics and strength and conditioning.  A ski trip takes place every two years.
