GCSE Home Economics

Home Economics provides students with the opportunity to gain the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for providing healthy diets for family members throughout life.  It also provides them with knowledge, understanding and skills they need in order to be discerning consumers.

 

GCSE Child Development

Child Development aims to encourage an understanding of pregnancy, the responsibilities of being a parent and the overall needs of young children.  It also emphasises how important it is to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

 

GCSE Hospitality

Hospitality provides students with core knowledge about the hospitality industry and the skills required for working in it.

It enables young people to develop and practice key transferable skills that are important to working life.

 

Occupational Studies Food Preparation

These units provide learners with basic knowledge required by chefs for patisserie, baking and contemporary cuisine.  Students will learn how to work safely and hygienically applying knowledge of relevant legislation.  Students will be able to use their own creative skills when presenting products.

 

Occupational Studies Child Care

This course is suitable for those who wish to gain an initial understanding of the importance of play when working with young children.  Also those working with children to understand the main characteristics of a safe, secure and stimulating child care and education environment.

Key Stage 5

GCE Nutrition and Food Science

This course allows pupils the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of nutrition.  It permits a deeper understanding of the relationship between diet, lifestyle and health.  Students will also extend their knowledge of relevant consumer issues in relation to food choice.

 

 

GCE Applied Health and Social Care (Single Award)

This course offers pupils the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding that provide a basis for entering into employment or higher education within the health and social care sector.  The course looks are promoting positive care, communication needs and the health and wellbeing of individuals in a variety of settings.

 

 

BTEC Children’s Care Learning and Development

This course allows students to benefit from studying five units based on children’s care, learning and development.  Students also have an opportunity to attend work experiences with children of different ages and needs.
