Sportshall Athletics!

Some of our competitors really excelled yesterday in the Sportshall Athletics finals at the Meadowbank Arena, Magherafelt. Ben McCormick 9LW and JJ Ross 9ET were part of the winning Under 13 Boys’ team and have now been selected, together with other team members from a selection of other schools in the Mid-Ulster area (Rainey Endowed; St.Mary’s Grammar School; St.Pius X College; Magherafelt High School), to represent Ulster at the UK finals in Sheffield during April. These two boys, in particular, made no small contribution themselves to the overall team success, with JJ winning the Shot Putt event outright, and Ben collected two medals for his performances in both the 4x1 lap relay (Bronze) and the 8 Lap ‘Paarlauf’ (Silver) – this was a two-person event involving running 4x2 laps. Erika Carp 8LT also did exceptionally well – she won the Vertical Jump competition and also had a very ‘gutsy’ run in the 6 lap race, to hold onto the silver medal at the very finish.  They were absolutely super, together with Hope Morrow 8NM and Anna Service 10SD (silver medal in the Girls’ Under 15 ‘Paarlauf’).
